Did you know?

The Regent Diamond has been part of the French Crown Collection since 1717 and can be seen in the middle of these diamonds at a mere 140.64 carats!
Quite a history after being found in India – sold to the regent for Louis XV then stolen during the revolution. Eventualy, Napoleon had it set on his sword; to be later worn in a diadem by Empress Eugenia.  Been on display at the Louvre since 1887….the security system here makes it impossible to contemplate a theft!

Located in the Apollo Gallery that was destroyed by fire in 1661 when it was part of the royal residence and rebuilt on orders by Louis XIV…this was not a simple renovation!
